Hungry Horse Cafe - Home and School

We had another great day in the Hungry Horse Cafe with a great bunch of school parents and Home & School committee.  A huge thank you to everyone who helped out by doing a shift and a reminder that Yr 8 are on duty for the cafe on Sunday 18th August.  Yr 7 will be on duty for the September 22nd meeting and this class will get a notice home in a few weeks. Some of our wonderful committee and helpers.

Junior School Visit
Last Friday the junior school visited the Resource Recovery Centre and the Community Gardens. Half the children went to the centre with the other half going to the gardens and then they swapped round. Trish Hurley (Resource Recovery Centre) showed and explained about the recycling of plastics, compost, glass and energy and how they make the bales of cardboard and paper and the energy it takes which is all done by hand and not machinery.
Ra McCrostie (Community Gardens) talked about bees and their importance to the world environment.  She talked about seeds, solar and wind power and the importance of earth worms in composting.  There was even a compost toilet which some of the children used!! It was an awesome day out even though it was chilly and the children really enjoyed it, some of them were pretty tired in the afternoon.  Thank you to the wonderful parent helpers who enabled the trip to go ahead.

Muffins
The Young Vinnies will be selling chocolate chip muffins next Wednesday (some weeks it could be another flavour) at lunchtime till the end of term for $1.50 each.  Orders and money to be handed into the office on the Tuesday before (in ordered to have enough muffins available).

Olympic Ambassador

Last week our school was lucky enough to have the Olympic Ambassador Gen Behrent (now Macky) come and talk to our senior school students about her experiences at the Rio de Janeiro olympics and the build up to them.  Gen Behrent came and presented a slide show of her experience in which she received a silver medal in the women's pairs and got 4th in the eight. She talked about how much hard work it took to prepare for the olympics and not giving up when things got tough.  The children and adults were very interested in her experiences.
