Faith Facts
Week 2 - August 1 -5 (Green)
Sunday | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | Saturday |
31 18th SUNDAY in ORDINARY TIME | 1 St Alphonsus Liguori, bishop, doctor | 2 | 3 St Dominic, priest | 4 St John Vianney, priest | 5 | 6 The Transfiguration of the Lord |
Two significant feasts this week. The first was on Wednesday for St Dominic.
Five schools in our Diocese carry the Dominican Charism. The Dominican motto is
Veritas meaning Truth or Pono. With so much misinformation these days it
is an excellent value to have. The mission is to Praise Whakapaingia, to Bless
Whakanuia, to Preach Whakapaoho.
The other feast day
is on Sunday, The Transfiguration. Jesus and three of his apostles, Peter,
James and John, go to a mountain. On the mountain, Jesus begins to shine with
bright rays of light. Then the prophets Moses and Elijah appear next to him,
and he speaks with them. Jesus is then called "Son" by God the
Father. The Transfiguration is one of the five major milestones in the gospel
story of the life of Jesus, the others being his Baptism, Crucifixion,
Resurrection, and Ascension
God Bless
