1. Principal's News Week 2, Term 3 2022

Let Your Light Shine - St Joseph's Movie

Tickets are now selling for St Joseph's Movie - Let Your Light Shine.  Tickets are $5 for adults (plus a small booking fee if you book through Eventbrite.co.nz) and children are free.  This helps us cover some of the costs of the movie.

This will be the first time our community has gathered together for a long time.  We choose a movie this year for our biannual production because we didn't know if we would be able to put on a stage show with Covid restrictions and we knew we could change the date for a movie to find a time where we could get together.

Plans are well underway for our building renovations and rebuild and St Joseph's is going to look quite different when it is done.  So we have asked families to bring some finger food to the movie - that means food that we can stand and eat rather than a meal.  We will not have the opportunity to heat any food so it needs to be already cooked. After the movie, our Board of Trustees will be asking some very simple questions which you can choose to discuss, or write an answer whilst having a bite to eat. The movie starts at 6pm and everything will be finished by 7.30pm.

Your responses will help our Board of Trustees to plan for the future of St Joseph's.

Board of Trustees

Our new Board starting in September is:

Sharni Cunningham (parent representative)

Andy Bradley ( parent representative)

Samara Allardice (parent representative)

Victoria Forrest (parent representative)

Adele Whiston (parent representative)

Rebecca Laming (Bishop's representative)

Fr Wayne (Bishop's representative)

Sarah Sollano (staff representative)

Lorraine Frances-Rees (principal)

Welcome to Adele and Sarah and I look forward to working with our Board of Trustees and the next three years is going to be an exciting time for St Joseph's.

Many thanks to Leigh Thomas who has been our staff representative for the last three years and has shared her wisdom and understanding with the Board.

Parent Helpers

Just a note about parent helpers.  New Zealand schools are run by the parents.  The Board of Trustees, must be a majority of parent representatives, as you can see above but more than that if we are to run smoothly our parents need to fund-raise from time to time.  When we have events, we rely on parent helpers to make these events happen.  We have cross country coming up in week 5 and we need parents to step forward to help us with this.  Please have a think if your work or other commitments will allow you to help.  If you don't do it, who will?  Please also don't ever worry that someone else might do it better, or it could be someone else's job.  So please do step forward and help when you can.  It's also a great way of meeting other parents and making friends.

Fund Raisers

We have the option of doing a chocolate and/or First Aid Kit fundraiser for our school. A parent has kindly offered to coordinate the chocolate fundraiser and we need a parent to coordinate the First Aid Kit fundraiser.

If you would like to help with that, our office staff would support you with collecting money.  We just need someone to take the lead with connecting with the supplier and organising the initial distribution.  Please let myself or Paula or Anne in the office know if you would like to help with this.

Sacrament of Confirmation

We are celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation with a group of children on Sunday at 9.30am mass and look forward to supporting them with this significant life event.

Teacher Only Day

A reminder that school is closed next Monday 8th August for a teacher only day for professional development.

Ma te Atua e manaaki a aroha,

(God bless, and love)
Lorraine
