1. Principal's News Week 3 Term 3 2022

Sacrament of Confirmation

Congratulations to our children who received the Sacrament of Confirmation with Bishop Michael last weekend: Alexander, Marc, Soa, Reynaldo, Emily, Taylor, Celina, Taera, Milah, and Isla.  Thank you to Mrs Misiloi and Fr Wayne and their families and parish prayer partners for preparing them for this Sacrament.

School Interviews

Parent-teacher-student interviews are on Tuesday 23rd August.  School will be closing at 12.30pm in order to have the interviews.  Please arrange for your children to be picked up at 12.30pm from their classroom.  It is important we make the time to meet together with parents, teachers and students to discuss learning progress.

To book your interview go to:

Use code: 3c85s

Movie - Let Your Light Shine

All of the children who were with us in term 2 are in our movie.  We are having two screenings:

Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th August at St Kevin's College Auditorium

Time: 6pm.

You can get tickets at the school office - $5 per adult and free for school-age children

Or you can book tickets online at Eventbrite.co.nz and search "Let Your Light Shine."

Refreshments at our Movie Screening

We are asking families to please bring a plate of food to share after the movie.  We have asked for "finger food," - things you can pick up and eat easily.  The movie is nearly an hour long so if you bring hot foot please bring something that will still be OK if it is warm as there are no reheating options.

Writing

We welcomed Mr Mawson from St Kevin's this week.  Mr Mawson has been participating in writing classes in Hoiho and Takahe.   We have analysed the chidlren's writing to find areas of weakness.  We are focusing on constructing really good sentences and paragraphs.  The children are doing Science experiments at the moment.  A good scientist can make careful and accurate observations.  The children have been learning how to do this and are using the observations for their writing.

"The Dominican Sisters Who Founded Our School"

Patricia (helped by Marc) filmed the very last snippet of the movie this week.  Ironically the last thing to be filmed is the first thing that happened in our school history which was the arrival of Mother Gabriel Gill with the Dominican sisters in Oamaru in 1882.

Junior Drink Fountains

We need to replace our junior drink fountains, they are all leaking and degenerating.  We will soon be having a chocolate-selling fundraiser.  Please check the school news section and support us with this fundraiser when it gets going so that we can replace our junior drinking fountains.

TO NOTE:

Early closing on Tuesday 23rd August, 12.30pm

Closed for teacher learning in structured literacy Monday & Tuesday 14th and 15th November.

Ma te Atua e manaaki a aroha,

(God bless, and love)
