Week 3: Green 14th
- 18th February
14th St Valentine
14th Saints Cyril and Methodius
Saint Valentine, lived
in 269, a time ago when Claudius II was the ruler of Rome. Claudius II did not
like Christians, and he needed soldiers to fight in his wars. He made a law
that people couldn’t get married because thought that if men got married and
had families, they would not want to go off and fight in his wars.
Saint Valentine was
a priest and would marry the men and women who were in love, and this was
against the law so St. Valentine is the patron saint of love and marriage
Prayer for St
Valentines Day
God of love, you give us St. Valentine as an example
of love. As we celebrate the feast of this loving and caring saint, we ask you to
bless our friendships. May the love and affection we share with each other,
always come from a sense of care and respect. May we always follow the example
of your Son, Jesus Christ, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.
Seventh Sunday of Ordinary Time: Luke 6: 27-37
Themes for the Readings
- The mercy of God
- Forgiveness
- The cost of being judgemental
Loving God, you are kind and merciful. Lead us away from the temptations to judge and condemn so that we, too, may be kind, merciful and forgiving. Transform us so that we love as Christ loves.
