Filipino Classes
Are now held every Wednesday after school with Fe Arsi who kindly agreed to take the classes while Liza Gutierez is unavailable.  Fe is a former teacher who has taught in the Philippines.  The Filipino classes are very useful to the children in helping them retain their first language.  Thank you Jan Plieger - ELL Co-ordinator.

Home and School
Are holding a disco next Friday 18th September.  Years 1-4 will go from 6.00 to 7.30 and years 5-8 will go from 7.00 to 8.30 pm.  It will be themed which will be announced next week. It costs $5.00 per person which gets you entry, a drink, a hot dog and a glow stick. Please let the office know if you are coming to the disco and how many hot dogs each child wants for catering purposes.  A form is in the office.

Next term the Home and School are having a Christmas themed raffled as their main fundraiser and a cake stall at the Oamaru Heritage Fete.  They are asking if each family can donate either $10 or a Holiday themed prize (no alcohol please) for the raffle.  They are hoping to have a money tree as the first prize and hampers for the other prizes.  Please hand your $10 into the office by Friday 25th September.
Volunteers are required to help sell raffles at the supermarket during the week of 16th - 20th November and the raffle cards will go out on Tuesday 27th October and collected in on Monday 9th November.  The raffle is drawn on Monday 23rd November.  Thank you.

Library Books
Can all library books be returned to the box under the stairs by Friday 18th September.

Pastoral Care
The Junior Learning Hub is on Pastoral Care for October.  This means they can bring in food for contribution to the parish freezer.  Please bring any food donations to the office on Friday mornings.  Thank you.
As you maybe aware, some of our school families experience times of compassionate need; like the death of a close family member, severe illness/injury or hardship.  In response to this, the Home & School in 2008 started a new initiative in line with the St Joseph's Strategic Plan, whereby all classrooms will have one month of the school year to contribute to the Parish Welfare Freezer.  The month of September has been assigned to Junior Learning Hub 2 and families are asked to donate cooked food or non perishable items.  The items can be tinned, baking or a main meal, e.g. casserole, lasagna, muffins or biscuits.  If you are in a position to contribute, please contact Maria Dickie on 027 255 8268 or 439 5599.

Auditions for 'Down the Rabbit Hole' Theatre Show
As part of the Heritage Schools Programme, the Oamaru Opera House will be hosting North Otago and South Canterbury primary schools for a short theatrical 'Down the Rabbit Hole' experience and several theatre based activities.  They are looking for 2 girls aged between 12 and 16 years to share the role of Alice.  The girls will need to be confident actors and singers and also be prepared to improvise.  Following the 20 minute theatre piece, 'Alice' will be working with smaller groups of children who will have the opportunity to get dressed up and try on different characters.
The performance dates (to be shared by the young actors) are November 3rd, 4th, 5th from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm and November 10th to 13th from 9.30 am to 11.30 am.  Auditions will be held this Friday 11th September after school in the Ink Box at the Opera House.  Please email with any questions and to book your audition.
