Lions Club Speeches
Please read the information further on the blog regarding this speech competition for children.

Lost Clothing
Oliva G has lost her named polar fleece.  Please check your child's clothing to see if it has been picked up in error.  There are a few items of lost property in the foyer to be collected.

Pies and Milo
Children can bring a named pie wrapped in tinfoil to be heated up starting the first Wednesday of term 2 (not next week) and bring a named cup and 50c for a warm milo.  The pie and milo can be dropped off on the bench in the hall. Please do not bring noodles to be heated up.  This initiative will be run in the colder months of terms 2 and 3.

Scooters
There are 4 scooters locked in the caretaker's shed, if your child has lost one, please contact the office or see Mr Jelgersma.


WINTER SPORTS
Fees
All sports fees need to be paid or have a payment plan in place before the children receive their uniform.  Please put down the name of the sport as your reference.  If you require assistance with paying these fees, please contact Mrs Frances-Rees.

Uniforms and Gear Bags
These will be handed out in week 1 of term 2.

Duty
Basketball, miniball and netball require their teams to do duty twice a season.  For basketball and miniball, this is score bench duty and a roster system will be sent out to all families for your dates.  The netball duty will be allocated between the two teams and families will be notified when our school does duty.

Basketball - St Joseph's Cavaliers
  • Season starts - Wednesday 11th April at the Waitaki Rec Centre
  • Team is - St Joseph's Cavaliers 
  • Practices - start Monday 2nd May from 4.00 to 5.00 pm at school
  • Fees - confirmed fees cost $60.00 per player 
  • Contact Details - these have been sent out to each family
  • Registration - an email has been sent out to all families to register their child as part of the new North Otago Basketball registration process.

Miniball
We have two teams competing in the miniball competition this season.  St Joseph's Breakers is in the Yr 3/4 grade and St Joseph's Rebels in the Yr 5/6 grade.

  • Practices - Maroon - start Thursday 5th May from 3.10 to 3.55 pm at school
  • Practices - Gold - start Tuesday 12th April from 3.15 to 4.30 pm at school
  • Fees - confirmed fees cost $50.00 per player for years 2-8 and $25.00 Yr yr 1 skills session

Rugby 
  • It is the responsibility of the home side to organise the referee for your game
  • There will be a Small Black/Rugby Smart course and Tackle Clinic being held on Saturday 30th April at Whitestone Contracting Stadium at 10.00 am.  The Small Blacks/Rugby Smart is for all JAB coaches to attend.
  • The tackle clinic is for all 7 & 8 year old children and for anyone new to rugby and who would like to learn how to tackle. It is all about safe techniques and how to go about it.
  • The holiday programme for 9/10s and 11/12s will be run on Thursday 21st April at the park.

Rugby - Excelsior
As St Joseph's cannot field teams due to low numbers in the 7/8, 9/10 and 11/12 grades, we have encouraged you to sign up with the Excelsior Rugby Club.  If you have not yet registered, the link is:

Football
A lot of our children have signed up with various clubs in North Otago for the football season which is great to see and we will endeavour to pass on messages to the children when they come our way.

Football First Kicks
Is a fun football programme for 4-6 year olds.
It is held at Orana Park/Waitaki Recreation Centre on Orwell Street in Oamaru on Fridays in term 2. Alternatively, on Mondays at the Duntroon Domain.
3:30-4:15pm
Each week is a rotation of games and activities learning football skills. Some weeks involve 3v3 games.
Starts Friday, May 13.
Registration is through your own club. Club options are: Riverside, Meadowbank or Awamoa. Get in touch with them and/or follow on Facebook for further information

Awamoa Football Club

  • Waitaki Recreation Centre - VACANCY - CLEANER
    We have a VACANCY for a CLEANER at the Rec Centre!  CLEANER - Monday to Friday, preferably early morning start, however it is negotiable. 4 hours daily (20 hours per week).
    Attention to detail, ability to work unsupervised, great initiative and being a team player are key attributes for the role.

  • The Wild Dunedin Festival has over 100 events celebrating nature during the April school holidays including deals on albatross and penguin tours, boat trips, surfing lessons and the Resistance Climbing Gym. Many events are for young people and most are free.
