Welcome Back on Site
With the lifting of limits on outdoor numbers and no need to contact trace for coming on-site, please feel free to come onto school grounds when picking up or dropping off children. We ask you please to still not come inside at this point unless it is to settle your child and please wear a mask.
We have some upcoming events you may like to come to:
- Caritas Challenge - Thursday 7th April, 11am - 2.30pm. Please feel free to drop by and see what we're up to in our playground.
- House Rippa Rugby Tournament - Tuesday 12th April, 1.30 - 3.00pm on our playing fields.
- Stations of the Cross - Thursday 2.15pm in our playground.
Miss French and Kakapo Class
We thank our lovely Miss French who stepped in at very short notice at the start of the year to take Kakapo class. We love having her on our team. Unfortunately, she already had a prior commitment to another school for terms 2 and 3 and can't be with us for that time.
The solution for Kakapo class is Mrs Dooley will take the class for terms 2 and 3. Mrs Dooley is awesome and knows the children and their learning and social development very well. Then Miss French will return to us and Kakapo class in term 4. This is the least disruption we can do for the class in the circumstances and we know we have two amazing teachers to cover Kakapo this year. We're so grateful to both Mrs Dooley and Miss French for their flexibility and dedication.
Enrolments
If you like St Joseph's, please share it with your friends. We have some open place enrolments available at the moment and we love the families we have with us so please spread the news amongst your friends and family, while the places are still available.
From the House Captains
From Emily, Leader of Lima House:
Every term the Year 8 leaders will host a sports tournament. In term 1, week 11 on Tuesday afternoon, the year 8 leaders will host a schoolwide Rippa Rugby tournament. These sports tournaments will be based on house groups (Guzman, Sienna and Lima). There will be a junior team and a senior team. When the houses win, that puts them forward to maybe be the overall winner and they will get house points. THe main point of this tournament is to encourage the students to be more competitive with the houses and learn important values while having fun.
The values we are promoting are:
teamwork and communication
sportsmanship
desire
passion.
Even students not on the team, playing on the field, are there for their team to support them and that will help all students to become team players.
Students who aren't playing are welcome to bring props of their house colour to show their team support. All students can wear house colours that day.
By Emily.
Well done Emily and I particularly like the values that our student leaders have come up with themselves.
Loose Parts Play Trailer
The children had a great time this week with the loose parts play trailer visiting.
We can create loose play ourselves. Please have a look in your garages, sheds, and attics. Things like tubes, pipes, nuts and bolts, bits of wood (untreated), old plant pots (for stacking and building) - you would be surprised what can be used for play. I have some large empty paint tins with lids we can use for storage or collection, if you are able to bring some of these things into school.
In particular, it would be great to get some old wheels, axles and timber so that some of our children could have a go at making go-karts.
Please do this for us, it would be so very much appreciated!
Ma te Atua e manaaki a aroha,
