This is going around in the rugby community so please look out for the symptoms of high temperatures, aches, headaches before the rash appears as small blisters.

Cyber Safety Evening

Mark this date in your diary to attend A Cyber Safety Evening with Rob & Zareen Cope who are parents and filmmakers of the 2020 documentary 'Our Kids Online'. This is presented by Waitaki Boys High School and is on Monday 13th September from 7.00 to 9.00 pm.  This covers the harm our kids are facing online in relation to pornography, predators, social media access, and the 24/7 switched on effect on the developing brain.   A reminder will be sent out nearer the time regarding this evening.

Home and School

Parish Freezer

During the year some of our school families experience times of need; like the death of a close family member, severe illness/injury or hardship.  In response to this, all classrooms in the school will have a time where they can contribute to the Parish Welfare Freezer.

Years 4,5,6,7 and 8 can contribute any donations in term 2.  We would be very grateful if the families could kindly donate baking or cooked meal items.  The items can be baking or a main meal e.g. soups, casseroles, lasagna, muffins, etc.  If you are in a position to contribute, can you please bring your donations in on Monday mornings to the office or by arrangement.

Pies and Milo

On Wednesdays, the Home and School are starting up the term 2 Pies and Milo warmed lunch.  Please wrap your pies in tinfoil and mark them with your child's name and if they want a milo, please bring a named cup with 50 cents in it.  All pies and cups are to be put on the kitchen bench in the hall before school starts.

North Otago Music Festival

We have students from years 5-8 involved in this music festival on Tuesday 6th July.  As this is a popular event, tickets are allocated two per family and cost $10.00 each regardless if it is a child or an adult who is going.  If you require more tickets, there maybe a waiting list depending on the sales at each school.  They will be available from the school office and we will let you know when they are on sale.  

Pompallier Catholic Rugby Tournament

On Sunday we sent two teams to this 10 aside rugby tournament in Timaru to compete against teams from Timaru, Ashburton and Christchurch.  Our U11 team was made up of our St Joseph's 9/10 year team who had close competitive games resulting in two draws and a loss which is a great effort.

Our U13 team was a combined team made up of St Joseph's and boys from other clubs as we could not field a team solely from St Joseph's.  As a team who had never played before together, this was a team who got better with every game resulting in great teamwork and dominant performances resulting in 3 wins.

Our teams competed in the combined tug-of-war, sprints and relays where we got placings along with the rugby results which made St Joseph's the overall winner for the day and was awarded the Pompallier Trophy.  We last won this trophy in 2016 and this is the 2nd time we have won it since 2008.

A big thank you to our parents who coached and transported the children on the day.

Scholastic Book Club

The Book Club brochures will go home on Tuesday.  Please have orders back by Wednesday 9th June.

Please note there are no more strawberry fruit crushes until further notices as they have run out of stock.  We will notify you when they are available again.
