1. Principals News Term 2 Week 3 2021

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 Rippa Rugby Team

They came in the top four in the Oamaru tournament against some strong opposition and have progressed to the next stage in Timaru on June 16th.  It was fabulous to see these young people come back to school yesterday so very excited and pleased.  Thank you to Lee Woodhouse and Paul Aston for coaching.

Robotics and Coding

Our intermediate department have been learning about coding and robotics.  The skills they need to work with this are more than coding, robotics or electronic skills but they are - problem solving, collaboration, analysis, and creativity.  They are beginning to learn the skills which we hope will help them make an art installation for our "Children's Museum" at the end of term.

Winter Sports
Winter sports are underway again and its great to see many codes practising after school at St Joseph's on a Wednesday afternoon.  Here is a part of yesterday's practices, with many more happening around our playground and playing fields.

Beatitudes

By Dorothy, Year 8

Jesus has shown us how to live and saved us by doing so and one of the ways he has done so is by following the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes are Jesus’s 8 blessings which have been followed by us for centuries, meaning to be good is to receive God’s grace. One of Jesus’s blessings that He often follows the most is being a peacemaker and showing mercy. To show mercy is to forgive others even if they have been the worst to you and to be a peacemaker is to never revert to violence and to reconcile with others. Jesus has shown us this when he gave bread and fish to his 5000 disciples and when he asked God to forgive us during his crucifixion. The both of these examples lead to one thing, and that is that you will receive the same attitude you have given.

Another beatitude is to show justice and stand up for those who can’t. This relates to me the most because I know that there is so much inequality in the world, so much that many barely can speak up on it. So as a person who is blessed with a comfortable life I plan to help others who are fighting injustice.

This is important to me not only because I am a Catholic, but because I know that peace is very important to the world, and the only way to achieve peace is to give peace. We should all like one another not because of their statuses or appearances but as equals.

The reason we are so prone to sin is because deep within our roots and heritage comes Adam and Eve who created the first sin in the world. Sin has grown so accustomed to us that we now have difficulties in turning away from sin. But when Jesus taught us about God and helped us he essentially opened the veil that separated us from God. I wonder what would’ve been if the first sin was never created?

Overall I think that the beatitude is a great blessing that Jesus showed us. Jesus has constantly been helping us even when you don’t see Him and even when He’s no longer alive. I believe that if we follow the beatitude we can be part of God’s kingdom.

Jesus came to save us by teaching us the word of the Lord. He has taught us about God and his principles to follow and gave his disciples the power to heal and spread God’s words and wishes. He gave us food, healed our physical well-being and forgave us. Even during his crucifixion he asked God to forgive us; and ripped away the veil that separated us from God. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, the veil that has been created from Adam and Eve’s sin (original sin) is now gone and we now have a second chance of being with God. Nothing is separating us from God’s embrace and love and now we have a chance to go to heaven in the afterlife with Him. Even after Jesus’ death we are reminded and taught by him through other’s words and centuries’ recorded teachings.

To me this means that I should also help others learn about the Word of the Lord. Jesus has greatly influenced my life and I should spread that influence to others. Spreading the word of the Lord is spreading God’s kingdom and I believe everybody should receive God’s grace.

Thank you Dorothy for your perceptive thoughts

Aroha and God Bless
