Week 7 Special Character News

This weekend six of our staff members are going to spend most of the weekend in Dunedin doing a Religious Education Diploma paper on Catholic Social Justice.  Mrs Marsh, Mrs Burke, Miss Jackson, Miss Huls, Mr Moore and Mr Cartilidge will be travelling down straight after school on Friday.  We thank them for their commitment and hope that they have an inspiring and enriching experience.

The week of 14-20 September is Social Justice week in New Zealand and this year Caritas is focusing on seven of the Church's principles of social justice.  Three of these are:

Human Dignity: This is the acknowledgement that each and every human being from conception to death is made in the image of God and deserves equal respect and rights.

Solidarity: In our connected humanity, we are invited to build relationships - whakawhanaungatanga - to understand what life is like for others who are different from us."  "From the food we eat and the clothes we buy, to the news we read and the websites we browse, we are connected to people and places all over the world.

Stewardship: Caring for the gifts that God has given to us, including the environment, our own personal talents and other resources.

With thanks to Caritas New Zealand
