Please do not remove children out of sport teams and enter them in other school teams without notifying the school first. Also please let us know if your children is going to pull out of a team they have already been entered into as this affects teams and coaches. Both circumstances involve a lot of unnecessary time, extra paper work and communication if you find out that a child is not playing any more and has not told you.
Practices - please note some practices for codes start this week and next week. Some practices are held here at St Joseph's and at St Kevin's. Some involve lunch times and others after school. I will put a practice timetable up on the notice board for all codes.
Coaches - thank you for offering your time and your skills which is very much appreciated. Please let me know what day your practices are on and when your first practice is if it isn't already written down. Gear bags will be given to you in week 1 of term 2 apart from the Yr 5-8 netballer's who start on Saturday 13th April. If you need your gear bag earlier, please let me know. I am currently sorting out first aid kits for the gear bags.
Managers - are required for some teams
Uniforms - will be handed out in week 1 of term 2 apart from the Yr 5-8 netball girls who are starting earlier and will get theirs next week. Rugby has new tops and you will need to have navy shorts. The uniform shop stocks our rugby and football socks.
Fees - please start paying these now as they need to be paid or be on a payment plan before your child plays sport. This was part of the condition when your child enrolled to play sport. The confirmed amounts will be emailed to you early next week.
Basketball and Miniball - there are no team referee duties this year, all referees for all sections are named and paid referees by the association. Teams will still have to do bench duty and a roster system will be organised. Each school will have one or more nights being the Court Controller duty over the season. This involves setting up and packing up, getting score sheets filled out, starting games on time on both courts etc.
Basketball boys - there is 14 boys who are playing basketball and the teams maybe adjusted after there has been a practice which is yet to be confirmed. Cranos Chikowore has offered to coach both teams and is waiting on confirmation of a practice day and venue.
Basketball Girls - Mrs Fowler has offered to coach this team and her practices will start at 4.00 pm at SKC but she is unable to be there till 4.30 pm due to meetings. However she has organised two Yr 12 students to take the warm up and ball sessions till she arrives so everyone is to be there at 4.00 pm.
Football - the children who are in the midget grade will go to a skills session organised by Football Waitaki. At this stage, the date is unconfirmed but is usually held on a Friday night at 4.00 pm.
Hockey - names have been forwarded to North Otago Hockey to be put into teams with other schools. When we get confirmation of teams, we will let you know and what the uniform will be.
Miniball - Mrs Fowler has agreed to be manager of the boy's miniball team as we have a Yr 12 SKC student who has offered to coach this team.
Netball - we need more players for the Yr 3/4 team and have asked other schools if they have any children who are wanting to play netball but are not in a team. All teams have coaches. A couple of the netball practices were muddled up between the Yr 5/6 team and the Yr 7 team but is now sorted. Yr 7/8 girls - there is a development camp in the first week of the school holidays. Look on the North Otago Netball page for further information and registration.
Rugby - the new jerseys have arrived and look really good. Players will need to have navy shorts. If anyone know of any boys/girls who wish to play rugby in any grade, please let me know as some teams are short of numbers and we will have to combine with another club which will be decided at a JAB rugby meeting next week. he JAB rugby AGM is held on Wednesday 10th April at 7.30 pm at Whitestone Contracting Stadium. All welcome. There is a girls camp on Monday 15th April at St Kevin's College for any girls interested in developing their skills and having fun.
