We Are A Dominican School
St Dominic founded the Order of Preachers or Dominicans in 1215
(800 years ago).
Religious orders are said to have a charism which is a
special gift that flows from God’s love. This gives each order a distinctive
tone or “flavour.” The Dominicans special
charism is prayer, study, community and ministry (reaching out to others).
Our school of St Joseph’s was founded by Dominican sisters in 1884 (it was called St Patrick’s at the time).
We remain true to the Dominican charism.
We pray daily in our classrooms and at our daily kotuitui (gathering) with the
whole school. We share weekly mass
together and many other liturgies throughout the year. All the staff members at St Joseph’s are
highly committed to excellence in education and set the highest standards for
our students. We strive to be a
welcoming, inclusive and diverse community and our older students engage in
ministry through our Young Vinnie's groups.

We have our very own Dominican Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Thank you for the Dominican Sisters who founded
our school.
Thank you for helping us to grow closer to you
day by day in the way we show respect, reverence, resilience and relationship
in all we think, say and do.
Help us to
journey down the right path in our lives by being true JJ role models.
Amen
We are so blessed in this day and age to have such a strong link with the Dominicans as part of our spiritual heritage. How amazing that the Dominicans will be celebrating 800yrs of faith and service in Rome next year
