Congratulations 
Well done to Elenoa Asi and Eleni Hausia who made the North Otago Yr 8 rep netball team and to Mrs Asi who is the coach of this team.  Anika Winders got into the non-travelling reserves.  The girls will play in two tournament in Balclutha and Dunedin during August.
Cricket
Girls 
North Otago Cricket would like to invite girls only to attend the Girls Only Cricket Coaching sessions to be held every Friday for 6 weeks beginning Friday 10th August.  Sessions will run from 4.00 to 5.00 pm at the Waitaki Rec Centre. It will be a mixture of skills and small sided games; the emphasis on fun!.  Ideally suited for girls from Yr 3.  Please wear appropriate kit, non marking footwear and bring a drink bottle/snack.
If you are unable to attend these sessions but are keen to be involved in cricket, just email or text Sam Bastin (details below) and he will be in touch.

Boys
North Otago Cricket are also running a 6 week hardball programme for boys and girls at the Timaru Indoor nets starting Monday 13th August.  Ideally suited for Yr 6+.  It will be small grouped hard ball coaching sessions (maximum 15) looking at improving participants cricket skills.  Please wear appropriate kit, non marking footwear and bring a drink bottle.  Cost $120 flat fee for 6 weeks.  For more information contact Sam Bastin at nocacoaching@gmail.com or text 027 649 0044.

Cross Country Marshalls
Our annual cross country for the whole school will be held in the morning on Tuesday 20th August at the Oamaru Racecourse. A notice will come out next week with information regarding it.  We need a few parents to help as marshalls on the day so if you can help, please let our Sports Coordinator  know at sport@stjoseph.school.nz  or phone the office.

School Mass
There is no School Mass on Thursday 16th August due to all the senior school being involved in the school production.

Singing Cup
Auditions for Yrs 5-8 will be held on Tuesday 7th August.  Further information regarding the Singing Cup will be in next week's newsletter.

School Production
Our students from Yrs 4-8 have been busy rehearsing for our school production called 'Jumanji - the 4 R's'. Our junior school will be attend the matinee performance starting at 1.00 pm and the evening show starts at 6.30 pm.  Parents of junior school children are welcome to attend the matinee and will need a ticket as well as pre-schoolers. Both performances are in the auditorium at St Kevin's College and the show goes for approximately 2 hours including interval.  (There is no interval at the matinee show).  The Home and School are selling ice blocks during the evening interval - cash only.   Doors will be open half an hour beforehand.  Any children attending the evening show and are not involved in the production will need a ticket. Tickets can now be purchased from our school office for a gold coin donation. There maybe door sales depending if there are any tickets left.


Help our School Win a  Community Garden
Our school is competing in the Colgate Community Garden Challenge.  By recycling oral care waste, we are in the running to win a recycled community garden set.  Drop your oral care waste and they accept any brand of toothpaste tubes and packaging, non electric toothbrushes and packaging, floss containers and packaging and interdental brushes and packaging. Please drop the items in the box at the office.

Community Notices
  • Fun and Fitness for Primary School Kids - held at the Waitaki Community Rec Centre on Fridays from 4.00 to 4.45 pm starting 10th August.  Costs $36 for 6 sessions.  The work outs develop balance, accuracy, fitness and strength, encourage teamwork and are lots of fun.  Register online at www.sporty.co.nz/waitakicrc or phone 434 6932 for more information.
