Athletics

Children from 8 years up require their pe gear every Monday and Thursday for their athletic rotation practices.
Thank you very much to the 5 parents who have already offered to help with our athletics but we still require another 10 more people to help out on the day.  Please let me know if you can help with either the junior or senior rotations by contacting Paula Brien at sport@stjoseph.school.nz or ring the office.

The date for our school athletics is on Tuesday 10th November and the whole school is involved.  The athletics will be combined with Oamaru North School and is held at Centennial Park.  Children in ages 5-7 years will be in the morning till after lunch and the children from 8-13 years will be all day.

Congratulations
Cricket
Riley Tuffley and Hamish Fowler have been selected for the South Island Primary School Cricket tournament being played in North Canterbury in January 2021 where they verse teams from all over the South Island. It is an intermediate age group tournament but if you are a very good Yr 6 player, you can be selected. This tournament is the pinnacle of junior representative and is a wonderful way for 12 players to experience one of the largest New Zealand cricket tournaments which was established in Invercargill in 1963 and has been played every year since 1965.  Well done boys.
Miniball
Our boys miniball team - St Joseph's Breakers have improved immensely this year under the watchful eye of coach Judith Leo to end up playing in the final against Fenwick and losing in a closely contested game.  This team also received the North Otago Most Improved Miniball team for the season.  Well done boys.
Touch Rugby
Michael Woodhouse has been selected in the Otago U14 boys touch rugby team after trialing last weekend in Dunedin.  The competition for the teams this year was very strong as there were lots of players from throughout Otago trialing. Michael will play in 3 tournaments this year with practices twice a week in Dunedin.  Congratulations Michael.
Hungry Horse Cafe
We are looking to fill the next roster for Saturday 21st November which is the last one for this year and the next dates are in February 2021.
The roster times for Saturday 21st November are:
  • 10.00 am to 12.00 pm
  • 12.00 pm to 3.00 pm
  • 3.00 pm to 5.30 pm
If you have not already helped, please put your name forward to either the office or contact Rebecca Heffernan on 027 432 4056. In order for the roster to be shared round more evenly we have taken note of the families who have helped so far this year.  Next year we will look at implementing a roster system so each family has a turn at doing one shift.

School Photo Flyers

St Mary's Interschool
Yesterday we hosted our 11th annual interschool against St Mary's from Mosgiel with the Yr 8 class competing. This year we tweaked the games to ensure everyone participated and all games were mixed with a couple of new games like rounders and 'Capture the Flag' being added to the mix. St Joseph's won the netball, rippa rugby, football and rounders with St Mary's winning the basketball so this meant St Joseph's won the shield as it was shared last year.  Some of the games were tightly contested which made for great spectator games.

The day was completed by the game 'Capture the Flag' where both schools were mixed together and versed one another.  This was followed by thank you's and afternoon tea.  A highlight of the day was the way the children interacted with each other and great sportsmanship being shown by both schools.
Thank you very much to Sarah Clapperton and students from St Kevin's College for coming and refereeing our games which was much appreciated and to Lee Woodhouse for coaching our rippa and football teams.
