Food Fair
As we live in a cashless society, the Home and School have decided to supply their bank account number to deposit your $10 family contribution.  This contribution covers the cost of the food and advertising for the Food Fair and at this stage, we do not have enough money to cover these expenses.  The Home and School team would appreciate it if everyone could deposit their $10 by the end of term.
The name of the account is: St Joseph's School Home and School, bank account 03 0937 0221742 00
Use your name as reference and put Food Fair.
There are still 18 spots available for cakes/slices to be donated.  Please put your name on the list beside the office or email the office to add your name to the list.

Gymnastics
Yesterday we sent 6 gymnastic teams to the annual  North Otago Top Schools Gymnastic Competition.  Congratulations to our girls 8 & 9 year team who got first in their grade and our Yr 8 girls who got 2nd.  All the children represented our school really well and knew the routines because they practiced each week in their lunch times for this competition.  Special thanks to Mrs Susie Jorgensen who came in each week to coach the children and helped out along with Mrs Jones-Hogan. Thanks to our parent helpers who transported the children back and forth to school.

Lost
Lewis Geypen has lost his named school polar fleece.  Please check your child's polar fleeces to ensure they have the correct one.

North Otago Pastoral Services - "Poncho for Schools Sponsorship"

Last season they ran a very successful promotion where by for every Ha of seed purchased and Poncho treated from North Otago Pastoral they donated $5.00/ha to the farmers school of choice.  Because of this our school received a cheque for $500.  Thank you to the families who purchased goods from North Otago Pastoral.  This year they are running the same promotion from September to the end of February and we would love for you to promote our school again please. A flyer is attached to the email.

Otago Primary Schools Cross Country
Last Friday we had 5 runners compete at the Otago Primary Schools cross country held in Dunedin. They raced against children from all schools in North, Central, Otago and in fields of 80 children plus. Well done to Seb Spillane who finished 13th out of 80 which is an amazing effort and Ben Gillies, Matthew & Michael Woodhouse and Paddy Spillane finishing about half way in their year groups.  Absent from the photo is Ben Gillies.

School Mass
There will be no school Mass next Thursday but there will be a liturgy in the hall at 9.00 am.  Parents are welcome to join us.

SPORTS
Cricket - if your child is interested in playing either soft ball cricket or hard ball cricket, please let Mrs Brien know.  Please confirm if your child is playing again next term. More cricket information will be available in next week's newsletter.

Touch Rugby - due to more people pulling out and others wanting to play, new team lists will be in next week's newsletter.  We still require 2 more coaches for the Yr 1/2/3 team and Yr 4/5/6 team otherwise we sadly cannot summit these teams for next term.

If you do put your hand up to coach, there is a basic touch rugby coaching session being held on Tuesday 16th October at Whitestone Contracting Grounds Park at 4.00 pm to go over the basics of touch.  Please let Mrs Brien know if you can attend.

Basketball
Exciting news for our representative coaches, club coaches and secondary school coaches.  Basketball Otago is offering a BBNZ sponsored FIBA Level 1 Coaching Accreditation this spring.  BBNZ is requiring all coaches that coach at a 2019 representative tournament to hold a FIBA Level 1 qualification.  The first round will be in November.  Dates Saturday 10th November from 12.00 to 4.00 pm and Sunday 11th November from 1.00 to 4.00 pm at the Edgar Centre in Dunedin.  There is some pre-course online study that will need to be completed before the first day, therefore registrations have to be in by 31st October.  There is no cost only your time. Register your intention at www.otago.basketball or contact Natalie Visger the development officer at development@otago.basketball
