Dominican Feast Day

- In 1869 Bishop Moran was appointed to the Dunedin Diocese.

- Ten Dominican Sisters came with him from Dublin to Dunedin in 1871.

- Four days later they opened a high school.

- By 1929 there were 120 Sisters in Otago and Southland.

- We still have 16 Dominican sisters in our diocese today living in Invercargill and Dunedin.

- Five of our primary schools and three of our colleges all carry the Dominican spirit.
