1. Principal News Week 6

Reconciliation this week
During Lent, it is an ideal time to go to confession or reconciliation. This is a time to return to God like the 'prodigal son' and to acknowledge our sins with true sorrow before the priest. You can learn more about confession on this link. After mass this Saturday and this Sunday, there will be an opportunity to go to confession. Please take the time to attend. You can read more on the Special Character section of this news blog.

Fair Thanks
A huge thank you to the Home & School and all parents, staff, students and sponsors who helped to make the food fair a success.

Chinese meeting
During the week we held our first Chinese cultural meeting. Thanks to Mrs Plieger for preparing the agenda. Mrs Marsh attended and invited Ruth Blair from Literacy North Otago who was able to talk about opportunities for adult language support. Here is a link to the full minutes from the meeting.

Congratulations to Adrienne Wylie
Adrienne is a Bishop's Proprietor on our Board of Trustees and a grandparent to Adrianna and Iverson at our school. Adrienne has just been named as one of the top 50 'Women of Achievement' recognized by Zonta, New Zealand. Congratulations Adrienne, we are fortunate to have you as an active member of our school and parish community.
50 WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT RECOGNISED BY ZONTA NEW ZEALAND New Zealand is full of selfless, courageous women. In this year’s 50th Anniversary of Zonta Clubs in New Zealand, we give special recognition to fifty of these women. “Women of Achievement”. Women who have worked hard to focus their passion, drive and valued time into pursuing a better place for us to live. They were selected by a judging panel of accomplished women, none of whom are Zontians, for their perseverance and courage in the face of some of the most serious issues facing women today. “These Awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise the inspirational women in our lives and to celebrate their contribution to making a difference to the lives of women and girls”, says Dr Janette Irvine, Governor of Zonta New Zealand.

Mathew Cullimore
Congratulations to St Kevin's student Mathew Cullimore for his achievements as a community volunteer. Mathew is a former St Joseph's student and a role model who was recognised on the Good Sorts programme last Sunday night. You can watch the programme at this link. Mathew's mum Lynne is a parent trustee on our board and she says: We are very proud. He is very busy with being a volunteer fireman, works at New World, he's on Community Patrol, Waitaki Youth Council, Leos and he's involved with fundraising for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer NZ at the moment.
Mathew is a 17 year old Year 13 student and we are very proud of him. He is a Catholic role model for all of us and is showing us how to Reach for the Stars as a Lifelong Learner in the Catholic Faith.

2. Special Character Week 6 Term 1 2016

We are now in our 5th Week of Lent. Lent is a time for Prayer/Karikia, Almsgiving and Fasting. Here are some suggestions how we can all get ready for Easter.

Pray for help with a problem
Thanksgiving prayers
Say a quiet prayer to yourself

Almsgiving
Give some extra time to your family tonight
Write to/email/text your parents/grandparents
Give to Caritas Lenten Appeal
Help with Garden clean up at weekends
Give heaps of smiles away

Fasting
Fast from impatience today
Fast from unkindness today
Fast from laziness today
Fast from snacks between meals today

Reconciliation Times
Father Wayne has invited some priests from Dunedin to help with reconciliation after the 5pm Mass on Saturday 12th March and the 9.30am Mass on Sunday 13th March. This is a wonderful time to help us get ready for Easter.

Here is a lovely Youtube clip I shared for staff prayers this week. Some of the teachers have shared this with their class as well.
Cherish your memories. Recall those that make you smile.
Ann Dooley/Co. Director of Religious Studies
