 QUOTE FOR THE WEEK

Birthday Greetings to
Xiao Hui, Iverson, Stephanie, Kenton, David, Analiese, Olivia, Liam, Jane, Francis, Marc and Siale.

Book Fair

St Joseph's School will have its Book Fair next term, from 26th - 29th of October. We are looking for two parents helpers who can assist and process payments. This may be before and after school. Please let Miss Sollano know if you are keen to be part of it.

Chewing gum
There has been a number of children bringing chewing gum to school.  Please note chewing gum is not allowed at our school.

Congratulations
Well done to Eva F, Warren P and Daniel W who trialed for the Otago U12 Touch Teams on Sunday in Dunedin against players from throughout the Otago region in which the competition was very close.  All 3 players were selected which is a fantastic achievement. They play in tournaments against other regions right up to Christmas.

Cross Country
Photos of cross country will come out next term (sorry ran out of time to put them on a slide show)

Dyslexia and Neurodiversity Workshops
This workshop is for parents whose children learn a bit differently.  It is held at Oamaru Intermediate Hall on Monday 18th October from 6.30 to 8.00 pm.  No cost.
Sarah Sharpe is the Neurodiversity Specialist and she delivers a hands-on practical workshop and presentations which offer an insight into Neurodiverse learners (with a focus on dyslexia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia).
Her workshops include insights into neurodiversity and how to implement successful strategies and use appropriate resources with neurodiverse learners, and how parents can support their children in their learning and functioning.
Parents will be encouraged to understand the importance of enabling and empowering their child to take control of their own learning with special emphasis on their strengths.  Her aim is to expand and embed knowledge, understanding and practice around meeting the needs of neurodiverse learners.

Home and School Meeting

There will be a meeting of the Home and School on Thursday 21st October (first week back) at 3.00 pm in the staffroom.

Hungry Horse Cafe - Sunday 17th October
The next date for the Hungry Horse Cafe is on Sunday 17th October, the day before school starts.  Mrs Heffernan urgently needs volunteers to help run the cafe.  Each session is 3 hours and no experience is needed, just a willingness to give some time to the school.  Volunteers can be mums/dads/grandparents/family friends or high school siblings.

The roster shifts are:
10.00 - 12.00 pm
12.00 - 3.00 pm
3.00 - 6.00 pm

Please contact Rebecca Heffernan on 027 432 4056 or email heffholdings@xtra.co.nz asap to be put on the roster or contact the school office.

Junior Swimming
What a progressive two weeks the junior school children have had with their swimming skills.  It has been amazing and delightful to see the improvement in their water confidence.  Children who were scared of the water can now put their heads under, some can now float on their front and back, some can jump in the deep end of the main pool and others can swim lengths confidently.

Thank you to the parents who ensured their children had their swimming togs each time and to our wonderful parent helpers who did a tremendous job.  We thank you very much for your time.  Photos of junior swimming will come out next term.

Lost Property
There is a large number of lost property starting to accumulate in the lost property area.  Please check your child's clothing to ensure it is clearly named.

Your son or daughter will shortly bring home an OnLine slip with their unique Access Key detailed on it.  This Access Key will display all the photographs of your child.  It is then an easy process for you to shop on-line and purchase the photographs you want.

If you place your order within two weeks of receiving your Access Key you will receive free delivery for your photo orders.  PhotoLife has agreed to despatch all the orders back to the school and your child will bring their photographs home.

Summer Sport team lists
Futsal and Touch Rugby team lists are on another page of the blog.

Touch Rugby
Touch starts on Tuesday 19th October which is the first Tuesday back of the term.
We desperately require a coach for a new Yr 1/2/3 touch team called the St Joseph's Panthers.  We need a coach for this team as this team is made up of new children who are wanting to place touch this term.
We also require a parent to help coach the Yr 1/2/3 Broncos team for the first 3 weeks because Mrs Koni is able to coach at that time.  She is available to coach from week 4 onwards.
Please contact Mrs Brien if you can help with either team.

Futsal Teams
We are entering 5 Futsal teams in the Monday competition next term.  We have the following teams and require parents to manage these teams otherwise a roster system will be drawn up.
  • Yr 1/2 Red - require a manager for this team
  • Yr 1/2 Blue - require a manager for this team
  • Yr 3/4 - has a manager
  • Yr 5/6 - need 2 more players and a manager for this team
  • Yr 7/8 - need a manager for this team
Teams will be registered today and information will be sent out in the first week of term 4.  Please let Mrs Brien know if you can help out. All games are 12 minute halves and there is no fee to join a team.

Summer Uniform
A reminder for the children to wear their summer uniform next term and to bring their SUN HATS.
