Dominican Conference - Truth Seeking
Mrs Brookes and I were very lucky to attend the Dominican Conference last week.  It was great to be reminded of the depth of meaning of the charism of our school.

Our motto "Veritas" means "Truth," which was the theme of the conference.

We can help children come to an understanding of the One who is Truth (God) through helping them to come to a deeper understanding of all the truths of the world around them - that means scientific truth, artistic/aesthetic truth, mathematical truth etc. and from seeing the truth and beauty in all these things our students will come to know God.

The disciples called Jesus teacher and he called them friends.  We have to befriend our students and sit alongside them to explore the beauty and joy of God's creation through education.

We must avoid the easy answers offered by popular media and a snapshot approach to life.  We need to engage with difficult and challenging things and use our God-given reason and debate to disagree constructively and come to new understandings.

I think our main charter goal, "Every child engaged and empowered in deep learning for success." embodies our Dominican Charism very well and we continue to strive to reach for and exceed this goal as Lifelong Learners in the Catholic Faith.

Ties
On a different note - blue ties are part of the school uniform for boys and for girls.  The ties can be purchased at our Uniform Shop or The Warehouse.  Please make sure your child is in full uniform and wearing a school tie.

Financial Pressures
These are a challenging fact of life.  If you, or someone you know, is under financial pressure and are struggling with school fees, please see me, I can find ways of helping.  If you have other financial difficulties, our St Vincent de Paul society exists to help members of our community.  Again, please see me, or Jocelyn Marsh.

Mindfulness
A reminder that there is a parent session on Mindfulness this evening in the staffroom at 6.30pm.  There is a long tradition in the Catholic faith of prayerful contemplation and living life mindfully.  Mrs Jones-Hogan will explain more about the program and give parents a taster of what it is like.

Home and School
There is a very important Home and School notice coming home in hard copy tomorrow.  Please check children's bags.

God bless
Lorraine Frances-Rees
