2. Special Character News Term 1, Week 6

The Wednesday Word

The Wednesday Word is an initiative of the Bishops of England and Wales.

"The materials produced by The Wednesday Word are already used extensively
throughout the dioceses in England and Wales - bringing remarkable graces to many."

+ Vincent Nichols. President, Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales.

After the success of the Wednesday Word in the United Kingdom the Bishops of New Zealand have introduced the initiative into New Zealand.  The commitment is to produce a colourful, attractive and relevant activity sheet for each and every child in a Catholic School in New Zealand, to share and explore with their families.

The aim is:

Your child will be bringing one of these sheets home every week. It contains the Gospel reading for the Sunday of the week.  This is the Gospel we also read and celebrate at our whole school mass on a Thursday.  It contains simple reflections for FAMILY TIME and also some activities for children to complete on their own.

Over the years as a teacher in Catholic schools, I have heard parents say they are worried that they themselves have not had the religious education their children are getting at school.  The Wednesday Word is a supportive opportunity for all families to come together and share something which is the essential bread and butter of our school.

We really hope you use it and enjoy it.
