3. School Notices - Week 9, Term 2 2020

QUOTE FOR THE WEEK

Birthday Greetings to
No birthdays this week

Entrance into School
We will continue to keep the junior gate locked in the mornings and during the day for the moment as we feel it gives greater security but we will open it after lunch so that you can come in at the end of the day.  Juniors will still enter through the main entrance in the morning.

Home and School
The AGM has now changed from tonight to next Thursday 18th June in the staff room at 7.00 pm with a short meeting afterwards.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

St Kevin's College Open Day & Evening
This will be held on Thursday 25th June for anyone wishing to send their children to St Kevin's.  The Principals Welcome is at 1.00 and 7.00 pm.

Subway Lunches
There will be no subway lunches until further notice.

Water Fountains
Are operating again but please still ensure your child brings their water bottles.

Winter Sports
Teams and coaches are all confirmed with the exception of the rugby teams where they need more player
s and may have to join with another club depending if the North Otago Rugby Union decided to play 10
or 15 person teams.
Second Hand Gear - there are some shin pads and rugby boots to give away in the Uniform Shop if
anyone requires any gear.  If you have any spare winter sports gear that you do not use anymore and
would like to donate to the Uniform Shop, please drop them in at the office.
Registrations for each code will be done next week.
Coaches - thank you for putting your hands up to coach this year which is fantastic and is greatly
appreciated considering how the year has gone.  Coaches will be in touch with their teams soon if
they have not already done so.
Practices - some codes have started practices this week and others starting up next week.  I am waiting
on confirmation for basketball practices and I will let you know when they start.
Uniforms - rugby players will be given their uniforms in week 11 (currently week 10) and the other codes
will be given theirs in week 12. Fees need to have been paid or started paying before you receive your uniform.
Gear Bags - will be given to coaches from this week.
Contact Details - each coach and team will be emailed their team’s contact details so please let the coach
know if you cannot attend practice or a game.
Sports Code of Conduct - please ensure your child knows about our school’s Sport Code of Conduct.
This will be emailed to all families again so please take the time to read it and explain it to your child.
Fees - 2020 is a shorter season due to the Covid-19 outbreak and some codes have altered their fees based
on this reason. All fees include $5.00 uniform hire, $5.00 admin and allowance for replacing gear and first
aid supplies.
We would like the fees to be paid or a payment plan in place before the season starts or you can speak to
Mrs Frances-Rees about options. (Rugby can be paid before term 3 starts, not their start date of 27 June).
If you have already paid money off this year’s sport fees, I will let you know your outstanding balance.

to do it for you.
For anyone interested in learning how to become a referee, there is a referee training session on Tuesday

gets paid for each game. This is being organised by Greg Brockbank from Otago Basketball.

Miniball – your coach will be in touch with you regarding practices with the boys first practice being
Wednesday 1st July at 3.15 pm at St Joseph’s.  After that, practices will be on Fridays at 3.15 pm at St Joseph’s.

their first practice next Tuesday at 3.15 pm at St Joseph’s. The Yr 1/2 team do not have practices and they
will have their first session at the start of the season on Saturday 25th July.
North Otago Netball have issued a couple of updates regarding being in Level one of Covid-19.
  • all players/coaches/managers need to be registered through the Sporty Website but this will be done
  • by school as we have everyone’s contact information.
  • clubs/schools to provide their own hand sanitiser for their teams/players for the netball season
  • (each team will need to buy hand sanitiser, whether someone donates it or everyone pays $1.00 towards it)
  • clubs/schools are to provide their own balls for practices and games - no balls available from the netball
  • centre at this stage.
  • clubs/schools are still to make sure all players have their own towel and drink bottle
  • if anyone is sick, please stay at home, whether this is practices or games.
  • there will be hand sanitiser and wipes at the entry to the changing rooms all the time and also at the
  • game entryon Saturday’s for those who wish to use it through the netball season.

Rugby – starts on Saturday 27th June and all teams started their practices this week and their first game is
on Saturday 27th June and they play the first Saturday of the school holidays.  There is a North Otago rugby
meeting on Monday to decide if teams play 10 aside or 15 aside depending on club numbers. Boys wanting
to play rippa rugby (5 and 6 year olds), I will find out after Monday’s rugby meeting if there is a club or
players that we can join with.  Will keep you posted.
We need an adult to be present at the 9/10 year team practices because if there are children not listening to
the coach, they can ask the children to behave.  If no-one volunteers to be on the side- line at practices, we
will have to do a roster system. Please let me know if you can help. Rebecca Meek will be the manager of
the team at the games.
All players are to wear mouthguards at practices and games. Rugby socks can be purchased from the uniform
shop for $15.00.
All players/coaches/managers need to be registered through the Sporty Website but this will be done by school
as we have everyone’s contact information.
All rugby coaches are to attend a Rugby Smart/Small Blacks course for an hour on Saturday 20th June at
Whitestone Contracting Stadium with the time to be confirmed.  This will be more of a practical session
involving drills and skills.  All coaches have to pre-register online before attending.  Please click on the
link to register. St Joseph’s https://www.sporty.co.nz/viewform/108024
