1. Principal's News, Week 5, Term 3, 2017

Singing Cup
A big shout out to all the children who auditioned for singing cup yesterday.  Well done - it takes courage to get up and sing.

It was lovely to have Ceilidh Brookes and Tivinia Misiloi from St Kevin's College as our hosts.  It wasn't that long ago that these two girls were on our stage competing in Singing Cup.

The house choirs are all practising and the staff choir is well underway.  Miss Day is challenging us with some dance moves.  So put the date in your diary.  Wednesday 20 September, 6pm at St Kevin's auditorium.

First Communion
Congratulations to all of our First Communicants from last weekend.

SOLO
SOLO stands for Structure of Observable Learning Outcomes.  It is the structure that we use throughout the school to support and extend learning.  NCEA merit and excellence are based on SOLO criteria.

I know that a lot of educational language sounds like mumbo jumbo so I will be in the staffroom this Friday at 2pm for any parents who would like to go through a simple SOLO activity with me to get the idea of what its about.

God Bless and Aroha

First Communion
Congratulations to children making their First Communion last week and to families that supported them.

Faith Facts this week:-
Pope Francis has a great devotion to Mary and Jesus’ foster father, Joseph. You can see his devotion to Joseph depicted and discussed in Pope Francis’ Coat of Arms.

Pope Francis’ monthly prayer intentions. This month, Pope Francis urges us all to pray for artists. That artists of our time, through their ingenuity, may help everyone discover the beauty of creation.

Yr 8 Leadership Project
Our Yr 8 students would like to plant 210 New Zealand Native plants up in Cape Wanbrow.  The reason they are wanting to plant these trees is because in Term 1, their class learnt about global warming.  It is a big part of the world today with all the fossil fuel and resulting CO2 in the air.  A way to help us have clean air is to plant trees.  Also at Cape Wanbrow the council are needing people to help with planting and we would be giving back to the community.
This tea towel fundraiser is raising money for the trees:  1 tea towel will cost $10.00, 2 for $19.00, 3 for $25.00 and anymore that that will cost $8.00 each.  All tea towels have been designed by St Joseph's students.  Tea towel designs and order form are in the office for you to look at.
