Before and After School Care
This facility is available from 8.00 to 8.30 am in the mornings and children who catch the bus can use this facility. Bus children in the afternoon are able to wait after school with Mrs McCartie until 4.00 pm. If there is anyone who is not a bus student and wishes to use the After or Before School Care facility, please let the office know.

Celebration Kotuitui (Friday assembly) 
There will be no Kotuitui for the next 2 weeks due to the senior school swimming lessons and Technology at St Kevin's.  Kotuitui will resume again on Friday 19th February.

Home and School
Are holding a Food Fair on Sunday 6th March from 10.30 am to 2.00 pm in the school grounds. There will be a variety of different foods available to eat from different countries and each plate costs $5.00.  There will also be games, prizes, music, entertainment, face painting, cake stalls etc.  A fun day out for the whole family.  If you would like to be involved in any way, please contact Rachel Fowler on 027 237 8234 or email her at rachfow@hotmail.com
Do not forget about the Food Fair meeting tonight at 7.30 pm in the staff room (Ruma Koru).

Lost Clothing
We have 3 school jackets, 3 school jerseys, 1 polar fleece and countless sundry items including odd shoes, bike helmet and other jackets in the lost property area.  Please come and have a look to see if they are yours.

Scholastic Book Club Coordinator
We are looking for a parent who would like to coordinate the scholastic book club orders each month.  Please let the office know if you would like to be the book club coordinator.

School Absences
If your child is going to be absent from school, please let the office know the reason by either phoning 434 8856, texting to 027 434 8860 or emailing to office@stjoseph.school.nz  If your child leaves the school throughout the day for any reason, do not forget to sign them out at the office.

School Calendar App
Download our School Calendar App free.  Always be informed of our events.  How:  Android & Apple platforms - search "Parent Teacher Calendar" and choose our school from the menu once downloaded.

Subway Lunches
Will resume again on Friday 12th February. The lunch will cost $5.00 for a 6 inch roll, cookie and an apple.  There will be no flavoured milk offered due to the school being involved with the school milk programme.  We are looking for a parent to collate the subway orders on a Friday morning and deliver them to Subway.  Please let the office know if you are available to to do this.

Summer Sports
Touch Rugby - resumes on Tuesday 16th February and we are still looking for coaches for the teams.  Remember if we have no coaches, there will be no teams entered.

Cricket - 4th and 5th grades resume on Saturday 12th February.  Coaches will let you know the times.

Superstar Cricket - this is a new format of cricket for Yrs 1-6 and will have 8 players in a team.  It will be played at St Kevin's College over 4 Mondays starting on 22nd February.  The team will play 2 games each starting at 4.00 pm and finishing by 5.30 pm.  Each team will require 1 parent at each game.  No parent - no play.  There is no cost involved for the 4 weeks so if you are interested, please let Mrs Souness know by email at tsouness@stjoseph.school.nz by Tuesday 9th February.

Swimming for Yr 4-8
Starts tomorrow so don't forget your togs and towel.  Children are asked to wear their PE uniform on the days they have swimming.  The times are:
1.00 pm - Yr 5 and Yr 7
1.30 pm - Yr 4 and Yr 6
2.00 pm - Yr 8

The dates in February are: Friday 4th, Tuesday 9th, Wednesday 10th, Thursday 11th, Friday 12th, Monday 15th and Thursday 3rd March.  The senior school swimming sports will be held on Wednesday 9th March.

Uniform Shop
Is open on Thursday afternoons from 2.30 to 3.00 pm and Monday mornings from 8.30 to 9.00 am. Please remember to name your clothes especially if you have bought a second hand item and it shows the other persons name on it as we do not know who it belongs too if it gets lost.

Winter Sports
Basketball
North Otago Basketball Representative trials for Under 15 boys and girls will be held on Thursday 18th February at the Waitaki Recreation Centre.  Girls will be from 4.00 - 5.00 pm and boys from 5.00 to 6.00 pm. Due to the timing of Regional/National tournaments, trials are being held asap. If you wish to be considered for selection but are unable to attend trials or have other inquiries, please contact Ian Cathcart on 027 834 7015 for boys or Susan de Geest on 027 222 2187 for girls.  Trials for Under 13 Boys and Girls will be held in June.

Netball

Join the Steel Club (formerly known as the Jennian Homes Junior Netball Academy).  Designed to give young players (aged 8 to 15) of all abilities the opportunity to learn new skills through weekly sessions.  Run by Netball South, kids will learn about movement and ball skills, shooting, defence, attack,tactical and technical awareness, fitness plus warm ups and cool downs. Registration costs $75 for the first 6-week programme to be held during term one.  Term two and three programmes are all 8 weeks duration and cost $100.

The Steel Club will be held in Oamaru on March 4th to 15th April, May 13th to 1st July and August 5th to 23rd September.  For full details, visit www.netballsouth.co.nz


Community Notices
-  Fundraiser for Oamaru Rowing Club - order Pasta meals from $12.00 to $37.00.  These meals are frozen ready to eat meals or come in a packet.  Very yummy meals like Ravioloni, Ravioli, Canneloni, Lasagne, Calzone.  Support Tegan Souness and other ex St Joseph pupils like Sophie Brien, Jack Souness, and Nicholas Plieger by supporting our fundraiser.  Contact Tina Souness, Paula Brien or Tracy Plieger for further information.

-  Anglican Care Oceans - is a peer support programme for children and young people who have suffered grief and loss due to death, separation/divorce or imprisonment.  Each programme runs throughout the school term for 9 or 10 weeks for one hour a week.  It is not a counselling service but a place where children can talk openly about their loss/es and learn skills to live with their loss/es and cope with the various emotions that come with grief.  We have seen many children go throughout the programme and have numerous success stories of how it helped them.  The first programme starts on Wednesday 10th February at St Mary's Church Hall next to the New World Supermarket North end from 4.00 to 5.00 pm.  For further information and referral forms, contact Peggy Waite, Social Worker at Pembroke school on 027 889 9000 or peggy.waite@pssc.co.nz

- Friendly Bay Family Day 2016 - held on Sunday 21st February from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.  There will be a beach dig and sandcastle competition, community food stalls, free inflatable dragon on the water and inflatable land slide and much more.

-  Cycle Skills Fun Day - come along to Waitaki Road Safe's annual Cycle Skills Fun Day held on Saturday 13th February from 1.30 to 3.30 pm at Takaro Park, Severn St, Oamaru.  A free event for children aged 4-12 years.
