Image result for mary mackillop 1897St Mary of the Cross - Australia’s first saint. Known as Mary MacKillop. She made her first visit by ship to New Zealand in 1894-95, more than 10 years after the original sisters came to Temuka in 1883. She stayed for over a year, travelling to 11 small communities in both the North and South Islands, most of them in country areas. Mary followed her first visit with three further extended visits in 1897-98, 1900-1901 and 1902. In 1897 she stayed for some time with the sisters in Arrowtown. A woman of faith and vision.
