2. Special Character Week 8 Term 2 2020

Welcome/Kiaora/Malo e Lelei
Week 8   1st - 5th June (Green)
31st May Pentecost
1st Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church
5th St Boniface
5th World Environment Day

Pentecost is a holy day that celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit 40 days after Easter. Some churches consider it the birthday of the Christian church and celebrate it. Before Jesus was crucified, he told his disciples that the Holy Spirit would come after him. And 40 days after Jesus was resurrected that promise came true when Peter and the early Church were in Jerusalem for Pentecost. The Holy Spirit descended upon them. The beginning or birth of the church.

World Environment Day Prayer
God of the sun and moon, of the mountains, deserts and plains, God of the mighty oceans, of rivers, lakes and streams, God of all creatures that live and move on this sacred Earth, we are formed by Christ into your people called to bring the world into your marvellous light. May we know our ecological vocation so that we will care for this earth which you have created. We ask this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Special Character Focus
For the next five weeks we are teaching the God Strand for our R.E curriculum. The key ideas are a way of structuring the teaching to ensure that we are gradually creating a coherent framework of understanding for each child.  It promotes a fuller understanding for children who "come as they are" and have the opportunity to encounter Christ in our schools.

Key Ideas
God created the world
How can we know about God? - God is revealed through Jesus
God is all powerful and remains a mystery
God loves us individually (he has made a Covenant with us)

TERM TWO SCRIPTURE / PRAYERS 2020
Week 8:Matthew 5:16 "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." The Good News: Sometimes, helping others is as simple as living an honest and faithful life. By living thoughtfully and honoring God with your words and actions, you can inspire someone to help themselves by doing the same.
