Principal's News Week 7 Term 3 2022

Cross Country

Well done to all our children who participated with good spirits at our cross country a couple of weeks ago.  Particularly well done to the 16 children who participated in the North Otago Cross Country this week in extremely cold conditions with snow flurries at the end!  That was: Taylor, Emily, Reynaldo, Alexander, Manu, Hila'atu, Theo, Siale, Ellie, Sephrin, Analiese, Luke, James, Tevita, Malachi and Caleb.

Here are some of the lovely photos taken at our cross country day.  They can all be seen on our Facebook page.

Year 7 & 8 Camp
I very much enjoyed spending time with our year 7 & 8 students last week on their camp at Aoraki Mt Cook.  It was a bonding experience in a beautiful environment where the children had the opportunity to get to know each other in different ways and have some different challenges and experiences.  Unfortunately, the ski field closed due to the weather so we could not go skiing but the children enjoyed walks, and learning about the local environment through a DOC facilitator, and they enjoyed snow tubing on their last day.  There are many more pictures on our Facebook page.

Cultural Group
This year all of our children have learnt the cultural performances as part of their school learning  We let children choose if they wanted to take it to the next level and take it to the stage.  For those who have not done this, we have provided arts and technology teaching.  This means that all of our children have had opportunities to improve themselves in various areas and only those who really wanted to perform, have performed.

For the cultural group we are proud of what they have achieved:

Fiefia Night
Our cultural group performed very well at Fiefia Night on Tuesday.  This is a celebration of Pasifika culture and we are really pleased that for the first time, many of our children who are not Pasifika have opted into this and enjoyed it very much.  They did us proud.

Matariki Hui Ako
The same cultural group also performed at the Matariki Hui Ako (kapa haka festival) yesterday at the Opera House.  They have practised and polished a very rousing performance.

Polyfest Next Week
The same group will be going to Polyfest in Dunedin next week and there is a link for the live feed which I will share on Facebook next week for those who wish to watch it.

Thank you to parents
Thank you to the parents who have supported us with camp: Lee Woodhouse and Lyndal Mulligan.  Adele Whiston for helping with our cultural groups.  Also to all our parents who support us every day by having the children turn up prepared and excited about the many activities they participate in as well as a very full program of learning.  Thank you.

Ma te Atua e manaaki a aroha,

(God bless, and love)
Lorraine
